Henrietta Butler

Artist

"To be able to bring something new and creative into manifestation is one of the purest acts of hope."

Describe yourself as a maker/artist/creative

I am an autodidactic artist, living in Colorado. My creative endeavors include acrylic, mixed media, and assemblage works.  I have shown my work in galleries and other venues, and am currently only showing and selling online.

What are you currently working on?

Acrylic on canvas series: art and words of encouragement and love.

Has your work shifted in response to the pandemic? How?

Yes. I am finding it more important than ever to use art for upliftment during this time. I have worked more slowly and consciously to that end.

In your opinion, what role does the creative process play in helping us confront our “new” reality?

The act of creating, whether a doodle or a masterpiece frees the mind and soothes the soul ... two things that are relevant and important in any reality. To be able to bring something new and creative into manifestation is one of the purest acts of hope.

5. Any other insight, opinions ... whatever you want to add.

I encourage all artists and non-artists (by definition) to explore and engage in creativity in any form that brings one joy, for self and/or others.  Creativity is an act of giving to the self and others, representing potential and possibility when delving into the “unknown”.
