Artist
"I am responsible for the joy in my life and have an obligation to contribute to making the world more beautiful."
Tell us about what you're currently working on.
I'm creating funky paper mache cakes, cupcakes and cookies with paper, compounds, glue and glitter.
Has your work shifted in response to the pandemic? How?
I have been isolating with my two cats since March 16, finding the additional time a blessing of sorts.
In your opinion, what is the role that the creative process can play in helping us confront our new reality?
I am responsible for the joy in my life and have an obligation to contribute to making the world more beautiful. I believe that to balance my world, I am compelled to make, form, paint and find fresh methods to express myself.
Valerie Saxer lives in Wisconsin. She's been making art since she was little, and found inspiration from her mom who told her to examine everything, take it all in and always "look, look, look!" See more of Valerie's work here.
