William Wright

Painter

"I am happiest when I get lost in the flow of art and forget everything. That's more difficult now."

What are you currently working on?

I always have about 10 paintings on the go.

Has your work shifted in response to the pandemic? How?

I seem to be painting about the same amount of hours - maybe a little bit more - about five hours a day. My subject matter hasn't changed much, but the general worry and uncertainty pervades the mind and affects the work.

What is the role that art can play in helping us confront our new reality?

For me, it's always been an escape. I am happiest when I get lost in the flow of art and forget everything. That's more difficult now. I hope more art of all kinds is created in these times of isolation.
