Tell us about what you're currently working on.
I make sculptures from wood beginning with images that are drawn onto the piece and then cut with a scroll saw. I sand everything by hand. My designs follow the mood and atmosphere of the day, so right now they are a bit related to isolation.
Je réalise des dessins que je colle sur des bouts de bois (érable, noyer, hêtre,chêne...), je les découpe avec une scie à chantourner, je les ponce avec mes mains. Les dessins suivent l'humeur et l'ambiance du jour. Donc peut-être un peu liés à l'isolement actuellement.
Has your work shifted in response to the pandemic? How?
The uncertainty of everything has given me a more urgent drive to create a lot - right now.
L'incertitude de l'après tout ça active pour moi l'urgence de la création, aujourd'hui, maintenant, beaucoup.
How do you think the creative process can help us confront our "new" reality?
Right now, we can taste the pleasure and simplicity of creating without challenge or constraint. But my feelings right now are a mix of sadness and empathy for those who are suffering. It seems a selfish pleasure to have the time to live and create.
Le goût du plaisir de la simplicité de créer, sans enjeu, sans contrainte. Des sentiments qui se mélangent entre la tristesse et l'empathie pour ceux qui souffrent et le plaisir égoïste à prendre le temps de vivre et de créer.
